This page is meant to show basic things that I feel everyone who has a computer should use
I am not an expert on computer applications or privacy so this wont be that well put together or whatever
(NOTE: this page will be updated over time)
privacy is very important, especially on the internet, everyone deserves the right to privacy but as time goes on privacy is threatened
Windows and Google use data collection in order to sell your data, these big companies shouldn't be able to see your private information
and sell it as they wish and then because of these companies holding your personal info if there's a data breach your info is now on the web
for anyone who's looking for it to find, not only companies lust for your information, governments are starting to collect information
from internet users, The United Kingdom is making people use their ID's just to use social media, if this law is successful than other nations
will follow in the UK's steps, they try to masquarade this as "child safety" but in reality this is just a campaign against privacy, soon we may
live in a world where no matter where you go, you're being watched and being recorded, even in your own home, do these governments
not already have enough control and surveilience? they only lust for more power and more control which is why they're trying to do this
I've used this distro on a 32Bit netbook and it ran alright, it's very user-friendly and the setup doesnt take too long and and you don't have to have to do much (it's based off of linux mint so it's not very different)
if you're into old tech asthetics than you'd love bodhi, it has a design reminiscent of the late 2000's and 2010's and has a look that seems like a mix between Windows 7 and Windows XP
i didnt use this distro for that long, its an alright OS, i liked how it came with a couple of simple little games, i'm not a big fan of its design tho, its minimalistic
but not in a charming way, if anything it reminds me of ChromeOS. if you dont care about asthetics than it's a basic but useful OS
This I used in a virtual machine on my actually good computer, i havent played around with it much so I'm not sure what its limits are but the interface is quite good
the desktop enviroment is very standard it really just seems like a textbook OS if that makes sense
NOTE: when given the option to use a different search engine always go for DuckDuckGo (if it's an option)
Firefox is a damn good browser, it does everything a browser should do and doesnt harvest your data (unlike google)
theres not much to say really its just a very standard web browser it has no flaws (that i know of)
(download uBlock Origin and set your default search engine to DuckDuckGo)
i havent used TOR ever before coming up with this page and it's just firefox but slightly different, going into the files its just a modified version of firefox
only difference i'm seeing is a security level button and a button called "new identity" it has a lot of privacy measures that i personally don't need so I'd rather just use firefox
and have a VPN on, also TOR is really slow, like it'd probably be pretty in like 1999 when dial-up was a thing, so just use firefox if you dont want to wait for junk to load
I havent used this lol
This section has important things but doesn't at the same time
this entry is for stuff that i'm not really sure where else to put
This is the first and only VPN I've used and I find it quite good, you have to pay for it but you dont have to pay a whole lot, it's only $5 a month and if you're interested in piracy than you should get it
it's very basic and should sort of just work, it has options that let you be more anonymous or "invisible" online (at the cost of internet speed) if you're into that sort of thing
A resource website that has links to other resources and torrent sites, it leads you to sites that give you digital things for free, either it be entertainment or information
I've only used this for piracy but it has much more than that if you're interested in other things
a basic and easy to use torrent client, i havent played with it much but it has a lot of settings that you can configure that i'm not really sure to figure out what they do (don't really care to find out either)
very useful for piracy lol, IF YOU'RE GONNA USE THIS YOU MUST USE A VPN OR ELSE YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER WILL GET MAD AND SHUT OFF YOUR INTERNET
Internet archive has pretty much anything you would ever want (unless its illegal) you can download or view books, music/audio, videos/movies, games, documents or whatever it is you want
This website is used for downloading videos from URLs, If you want to steal download some video you saw on like twitter or whatever than you'd use this, i'd say if you make videos and need to get something off of youtube than this would be pretty good but support for youtube was removed so you'd have to find something else
this is more for the next category but this website has ROMS for a quite a few systems from the Atari 2600 to the PS3 and Xbox 360, not only that but you can also download emulators
so if you're interested in playing older games DON'T GIVE A PENNY TO BIG COMPANIES OR RESELLERS WHEN YOU CAN GET A BETTER EXPERIENCE FOR FREE ON COMPUTER
this entry is for stuff you can use to play games, for my game suggestions visit this page here
(NOTE: I don't play games as much as I used to so these descriptons are not that detailed)
it's an emulator, you can play most games that released from the Atari 2600 to the Dreamcast so you can play alot of older games and it's free on steam
so its dead easy to install and shit, its a little basic and probably doesnt have as much settings as other emulators to my knowledge but it's decent for what it is
PCSX2 is a Playstation 2 emulator that rather than emulating single games unlike Retroarch, it emulates the entire system, even when closing it
it'll ask if you want to close the virtual machine, I havent used it much since I got new computer and my old computer couldnt run it that well but i imagine on better hardware it's much better
it has quite a few options and customization for running games so if you need something to run smoother, you could change settings for that kind of thing
Duckstation is like PCSX2 but it emulates Playstation 1 games instead of PS2 games, i haven't used this at all, on my old computer it just straight up told me my computer cant handle it
something I didn't mention for PCSX2 is that you need to get a BIOS for it to work, and when I tried to use it on my new computer I just wasn't in the mood to find that garbage
so as of writing this, I haven't used this crap
not sure if this counts as an emulator but this is an application that runs build engine games (most famous example would be Duke Nukem)
havent used it for more than two games so i dont have much to say other than DUKE NUKEM SUCKS
perhaps one of the greatest systems of all time, the PS3 kicks total ass, i grew up playing this system, sinking endless hours into LittleBigPlanet, Sonic CD, Katamari Damacy, i'm glad that my early childhood years were spent on this system, and now in my teenage years i've learned to mod the system and played other amazing games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Modnation Racers, in early models it had PS1 and PS2 compatibility, it is the ultimate system allowing you to play three generations of games, modding the system makes it even better, with multiman and movian you can play and watch anything you want (well anything that was made for the system not literally everything) and the simple but amaazing asthetics are just beautiful, i love the sound design of the XMB, the little tick sounds, the physical design of the system itself and menus, its so sleek and feels futuristic but retro at the same time, when modded it is an absolute multimedia powerhouse, if you own a playstation 3, you MUST mod it, if you dont have a PS3 then get one
coming out around the same time as the Playstation 3, the Wii may be nintendo at its finest, its basically a slightly beefed up gamecube, so it may not be as powerful as the ps3, it makes up for it with the sheer amount of games that can be played on it, select games from the NES, SNES and N64 (most of which were good choices) the wii can handle all of nintendo's catalogue up to that point, and the system is really easy to mod, countless classics can be played easily, its very similar to the ps3 in my opinion just from the quality and quantity you get from it, and the asthetics, HOLY SHIT THE ASTHETICS, absolutely beautiful, the sound design, the visual design of the menus, its just perfect, and the games for the system werent always the best, that would be made up for with its backwards compatability, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, Mii Maker, the first party developed games are just awesome, if you dont have one you should buy one or if you do you should start using it and mod it
